First Nintendo theme park launching in 2021 after pandemic setbacks

A Nintendo theme park is set to launch in Japan early next year after being in the pipeline since 2017.

Based on world-favourite video game characters, Super Nintendo World will immerse guests into the classic fantasylands featured throughout Nintendo’s epic game-series.

The bespoke theme park will be the world’s first Nintendo visitor experience based in a new spectacular zone launching at Universal Studios Japan.

Various rides, attractions and shows based on Yoshi, Princess Peach and Bowzer will be based at the complex, as well as a special wristband offering a unique interactive experience throughout the theme park.

By wearing the Power Up Wristband, guests will be able to jump, hit blocks and collect virtual coins as they navigate around the various attractions, which merges the fantasies of Nintendo in the real world.

Super Mario and Luigi will take centre stage at the new zone with the exterior of the theme park’s café and retail store featuring oversized red and green hat sculptures based on the iconic duo.

Once inside, visitors will be transported into the charms of Mushroom Kingdom through classic chequered floors, Nintendo merchandise and Mario-themed cuisine, including delicious pancake sandwiches and cream sodas.

The vibrant experience was set to open Summer 2020 to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics. Amid COVID 19, the highly anticipated launch has been delayed to Spring next year. An open date is yet to be revealed by Universal.

In other theme park news, a new dinosaur experience is coming to Spain.
