| The day will begin with Robert Simpson, Founding Director of Electrosonic, looking at the history of world Expos. This leads us in to sessions which will discuss the enormous business opportunities that will flow from the forthcoming Expo’s in Astana, Kazakhstan in 2017 and Dubai, UAE, 2020. Following a coffee and networking break, Juliana Delaney, CEO of Continuum, will host a session looking at how experience-based projects and destinations can change places, perceptions and people. Specialist architect and experience economy guru Ray Hole will set the scene by discussing how strategic development predicated on experiential economic principles can create unimaginable cross sector opportunities. This will be followed by a case study highlighting how UK companies imagined and brought to life the stunning new Olympic Museum in Lausanne. In this session we will hear from designer Stephen Greenberg of Metaphor, Mark Pyrah, CEO of Paragon-Creative and Alan Wilkinson of Electrosonic. Wales provides our next two subjects, with Owain Rhys of the Museum of Wales discussing the way in which the living history museum at St Fagan’s has engaged its local community, and then the team from the brilliant, Cardiff-based, NoFitState Circus will consider how performance can transform our perceptions of our physical surroundings. The morning concludes with talks from Sir Tim Smit, creator of the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Simon Elliott, whose Garden of Ideas is a visionary interpretation of how transformative spaces can nurture and celebrate creativity. After a break for lunch, during which we hope to be joined by a VIP, we will hear from a team of experts from the Natural History Museum, V&A, British Museum, Museum of London and the National Galleries of Scotland about how our museums work with children and young people. After their presentations, we will be invited to take part in an open debate moderated by Peter Florence, the founder of the world-famous Hay Festival. During the Tuesday evening prior to the conference, UKTI will be hosting a networking reception for delegates and speakers and, on the day after the conference, we will arrange transportation to, and complimentary tickets for, the Milan World Expo – where, at the stunning UK Pavilion, our colleagues at the Themed Entertainment Association will be present. This promises to be a hugely informative and enjoyable event which will be held in a relaxed and informal style – we look forward to welcoming you to Milan.
