There will be no running event this year at Disneyland Paris. Due to the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus, the French attraction has decided to postpone the annual event until autumn 2021. Disneyland Paris Run Weekend 5th edition was due to take place between September 24-27 but would-be attendees must now wait until next year.
During the event, visitors can choose to run or walk 5, 10 or 21.1 miles through both parks, where they are encouraged by support from the Disney characters who line the side-lines applauding. Participants are also encouraged to dress up as their favourite Disney characters for the event.
In a statement online, Disney said “We will continue to adapt our activities where necessary, which is why the Disneyland Paris Run Weekend will be postponed until the fall of 2021. We look forward to seeing you next year for this great event. We will be sharing more details soon.”
Guests who had booked to attend the running event can choose to either maintain their package reservation without the event features or cancel their package reservation for a full refund.
The park has remained closed since the COVID-19 outbreak swept through Europe, with a reopened date not yet released. Amusement parks in the Ile-de-France region, where Disneyland Paris is located, will be allowed to open again from 22 June onwards, according to the French Government. It is not yet known if the park will reopen on this date, but an announcement clarifying an opening date is expected in the coming weeks.
For now, though, fans of the park will have to make do with the latest announcement from the attraction. “We look forward to welcoming you back to Disneyland Paris and will announce our official reopening date as soon as possible,” their website says.
“Our reopening plans reflect a cautious approach that puts the health and safety of our guests and Cast Members first while providing you with a magical Disney experience. Safely experience the different worlds in our Parks, Hotels and Resorts with your family or friends and rediscover the magic of Disney: from exciting attractions to theme restaurants, and of course our beloved Disney Characters!”
