Disneyland Paris launch virtual queueing app to enforce social distancing

Visitor experiences around the world are tapping into digital technology to enforce social distancing success. Many have rolled out paperless ticketing, digital food ordering and virtual queues using various ground-breaking apps. Now, Disneyland Paris is the latest flagship theme park to debut its innovative digital platform.

Launching earlier this month, the Standby Pass optimises the duration of time visitors spend queuing for the most popular rides and attraction at the Paris resort. As a result, safe social distancing will be adhered too – ultimate erasing the fears of physical crowding and substantial queues.

Introduced at both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studio Parks, the platform debuted for the ultra-popular Crush’s Coaster Ride, before being customised for the following attractions:

  • Dumbo the Flying Effort
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • Big Thunder Mountain
  • Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain
  • Autopia
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Ratatouille: The Adventure

Standby Pass offers a virtual queueing experience. By downloading the Official Disneyland Paris App, guests will be able to delve into the Standby Pass feature and select their desired timeslot for their chosen attraction. Visitors will then be asked to make their way to the ride or attraction at their designated time.

A statement from Disneyland Resort Paris reads: “While Standby Pass does not provide immediate access to an attraction, it does allow guests to spend part of their queue time for attractions outside of the physical queue enjoying other experiences in the parks and reinforces physical distancing.

“Standby Pass is just the latest technology being implemented across the resort, as we are always looking for ways to improve the guest experience and continue to learn and adjust our offerings.”

The digital queuing platform isn’t only the social distancing measure Disneyland Resort Paris has applied as France continues to adapt through the pandemic. Enhanced cleaning regimes, hand-sanitising stations and mandatory wear of face masks have been rolled out, providing a safe experience for both guests and cast members.

Disneyland Resort Paris reopened with reduced visitor capacity on July 15.
