Disneyland Paris is setting a new benchmark in the theme park industry with the rebranding of Walt Disney Studios Park to Disney Adventure World, coinciding with the launch of the eagerly awaited World of Frozen. This transformation is part of a substantial €2 billion investment aimed at nearly doubling the park’s size and significantly enhancing the guest experience.
Originally opened in 2002, Walt Disney Studios Park was designed to give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at filmmaking. Over the years, the park’s focus has shifted towards more immersive experiences, a trend that began with the introduction of Worlds of Pixar in 2021 and continued with Avengers Campus in 2022. The upcoming World of Frozen, set to debut alongside the park’s rebranding, marks the next step in this evolutionary journey.
Tom Fitzgerald, Chief Storytelling Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering and Senior Creative Executive for Disneyland Paris, emphasised the shift in vision, stating that they’re shifting the narrative of Walt Disney Studios Park, evolving into creating entirely immersive experiences. This reimagined approach aims to transform the park into a series of adventure worlds, each designed to bring Disney’s beloved stories to life in new and exciting ways.
The rebranding to Disney Adventure World reflects a significant evolution of the park’s identity and mission. Natacha Rafalski, President of Disneyland Paris, highlighted the expansive overhaul of more than 90% of the park’s offerings since its opening, noting that this transformation warranted a fresh creative vision and a new name that signifies a vibrant new chapter for Disneyland Paris.
The new name, Disney Adventure World, will officially be adopted to coincide with the grand opening of the World of Frozen, ensuring a harmonious transition into this new era. The integration of the World of Frozen is particularly noteworthy, as it follows the successful introduction of a similar-themed land at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Disney Adventure World will introduce several new attractions and experiences designed to immerse guests in the magic of Disney storytelling. One of the highlights is Raiponce Tangled Spin, inspired by the Disney Animation movie “Tangled.” This attraction is part of a broader strategy to integrate popular Disney characters and stories into the park’s fabric.
Furthermore, the World of Frozen will be strategically located on the fringe of Adventure Bay, a 70,000-cubic-metre water body that will serve as a central hub for the new expansions. Adventure Bay will feature state-of-the-art entertainment based on water, including lights, music, special effects, and fountains, creating a dynamic centrepiece for the park.
The ambitious expansion plan involves introducing new themed lands and expanding the park’s physical footprint, which will nearly double the existing area. This expansion is supported by substantial investments from Herefordshire Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, reflecting the project’s importance to the local economy and cultural landscape.
As construction begins on the new park entry, the entrance plaza is also getting an overhaul. The entrance building, soon to be renamed World Premiere, will evoke the historic movie theatres of Hollywood, enhancing the thematic continuity from the moment guests enter the park.
Disney Adventure World is poised to set a new standard for theme park experiences worldwide. By seamlessly blending innovative attractions with immersive storytelling, Disneyland Paris is not just adapting to changing visitor expectations but is leading the way in the theme park industry. This transformation represents a significant investment in the future of entertainment, ensuring that Disneyland Paris remains a top destination for families and Disney enthusiasts around the globe.
