Its good news for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as many tourist hotspots have started to welcome back guests.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, museums, theme parks and other popular visitor attractions have been closed in Sharjah since March. Now nearly seven months later, government officials believe it is time to reboot UAE’s tourism, putting necessary measures in place to protect tourists and staff.
Just like other UAE cities, all of Sharjah’s attractions will be running at a reduced capacity to ensure social distancing adhered too. Tickets will also need to be booked in advanced so experience operators can control visitor numbers.
What to expect
Under new government guidelines, visitors will be required to:
- Wear a mask or face covering on the attraction premises
- Sanitise hands on arrival and make use of sanitising stations dotted around the experience
- Follow one-way system (if one is put in place)
- Social distance from other visiting parties
Leading UAE’s visitor experience
It’s no surprise Sharjah is keen to reopen the tourist attractions. Just over 20 years ago, Sharjah was appointed ‘The Cultural Capital of the Arab World’ by UNESCO. This achievement sees the UAE city welcome 1.7 million tourists a year, who boost Sharjah’s economy by £130 million.
Sharjah holds acclaim for its ground-breaking attractions thank to collaboration between British-based visitor experience designer, Haley Sharpe Design (hsd) and Sharjah’s ruler, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi. Together they worked for almost 20 years to deliver various cultural, history and heritage visitor experiences. Completed projects include Natural History Museum, Sharjah Aquarium and Arabian Wildlife Centre.
