Chester Zoo Issue Plea to the Public to Help Save the Attraction

The UK’s biggest and most popular charity zoo is in danger of closing indefinitely. The forced closure of tourist attractions, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, has had a devastating effect on one of the UK’s best-loved attractions, leaving Chester Zoo issuing a plea to the general public, to save the zoo.

Throughout the pandemic, Chester Zoo conservationists have continued to prevent extinction, whilst the attraction has released virtual experiences online to help keep the nation entertained. The zoo, however, is heading towards a debt in excess of £24 million by the end of 2020, financially crippling the business. Chester Zoo have to now raise £1.6 million each month, in order to keep going.

Meanwhile, members of the public are allowed to visit beaches and public parks in their thousands. This week private gardens are once again able to open their gates to the public, however, Chester Zoo’s 128 acres of gardens and 16km of pathways must stay closed, whilst under this enormous financial pressure.

A statement on the Chester Zoo website reads, “We refuse to cut corners when it comes to the animals, we refuse to give up on our fight to prevent extinction, and because of that we’ve now reached the point where we desperately need your help.”

There are three ways the general public can help to save the zoo. Through making a donation to support the mission of preventing extinction, adopting an animal or through becoming a member of the zoo family by purchasing a membership.
