Celtic FC Take Step Closer to Opening a Hotel and Museum Facility

Celtic Football Club are finally moving forward with plans to design and construct a hotel and museum facility by Celtic Park. Planning permission for the project was first granted over three years ago by Glasgow City Council, although Celtic FC are yet to submit detailed plans for approval.

The Glasgow club submitted documents in July, revealing that steps are being taken towards submitting finalised proposals. The development would include between 175 and 200 hotel rooms, a museum dedicated to the history of the team, a new club shop and ticket office.

The Glasgow City Council have requested that the retail area is no larger than 1,500 square metres and that no single retail area exceeds 400 square metres. This agreement is in place to protect existing shopping centres in the surrounding areas. Planners for the Celtic FC project have explained in a letter, that the retail floorspaces must be attached to the other elements in the proposal, helping to form an integral part of the mixed-use development.

“The retail floorspace forms an integral part of the mixed-use development – it cannot be separated from the other elements of the proposal, all of which are directly related to the purpose and operations of the football club,” reads a club statement.

According to plans submitted by Glasgow architect Holmes Miller, the hotel design “aims to enhance the works already delivered in the area including the Clyde Gateway regeneration.”

The hotel itself will house a restaurant, bar, and kitchen, with a meeting and conference area. The planning application is yet to be considered by the Glasgow City Council.
