CAP.CO, the creative play specialist known for designing imaginative outdoor environments, has been granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment by command of King Charles III. The recognition, one of the highest honours a British business can receive, acknowledges the company’s work for the Royal Household.
The firm’s first Royal commission came a decade ago, when it was asked to design and build a playground for Windsor Great Park. Constructed primarily from locally sourced and fallen materials, the project later received a prestigious THEA award — the Themed Entertainment Association’s mark of global excellence.
Since then, CAP.CO has gone on to design and deliver play environments across several Royal estates, including Sandringham, Dumfries House, Balmoral, and more recently, accessible play structures that reflect King Charles’s strong commitment to inclusivity and sustainability. Each site is designed for long-term durability while encouraging different modes of play across natural landscapes.
Founder Simon Egan, who carries the warrant on behalf of the company, described the honour as both emotional and humbling: “To receive a Royal Warrant is such an incredible recognition of our work. To be endorsed by the Royal Court and allowed to fly their flag on our own letterheads is a great achievement, and we are all delighted.”
A critical component of the award is CAP.CO’s sustainability-first approach. The company has recently formalised a strategy to design, build, and maintain environments that not only provide safe and adventurous spaces for children, but also protect and enhance the natural landscapes in which they are created. “We are committed to leaving the areas we work in slightly better than when we arrived,” Egan added.
The Royal Warrant solidifies CAP.CO’s reputation as a leader in sustainable design for outdoor play, blending creativity, environmental responsibility, and longevity into projects that serve both local communities and the nation’s heritage.
