Amusement Technical combines ride modernisation with a new British-built icon

Amusement Technical is seeing strong demand from operators seeking both to extend the working life of established rides and invest in a new generation of British-built attractions. The Lancashire-based engineering, technical services and control systems specialist will join the Experience UK delegation at IAAPA Expo Europe, connecting with the international industry through the UK Pavilion, stand S837.

Across the attractions sector, many rides remain mechanically sound while their PLCs, drives, safety systems and electrical components become harder to support. Amusement Technical designs, manufactures, installs and supports modern ride control systems that can improve diagnostics, reliability, maintainability and functional safety. Its projects are supervised by TÜV-certified functional safety engineers, helping operators manage obsolescence while protecting major capital investments.

Alongside this work, the company has unveiled The Great British Wheel, described as the first observation wheel to be manufactured in the UK for 125 years. Its first unit is scheduled for delivery in September 2026. Panoramic glass capsules and integrated LED displays give the attraction a contemporary passenger experience, while the illuminated structure can become a large-scale canvas for customisable light shows after dark. Enquiries are now being accepted for 2027 and 2028 delivery slots.

Together, these two strands demonstrate a practical response to changing operator needs: keeping proven attractions running safely for longer while creating new reasons to visit. Meet Amusement Technical with Experience UK at the UK Pavilion, stand S837, to discuss control-system upgrades, obsolescence management and the next chapter of British amusement engineering.

The two offers also speak to different investment cycles. A control upgrade can unlock value from an existing asset with an established audience, while a new observation wheel can become a destination landmark. Both depend on long-term technical support and an operator-led understanding of reliability, access and maintainability.
