A Washington children’s museum is continuing with plans for a $25 million investment, despite being closed since March due to Coronavirus. Everett’s Imagine Children’s Museum are planning to double the size of the centre, with a four-floor expansion for both children and adults to enjoy.
The centre is already every child’s heaven, jam-packed with innovative visuals, play areas and toys for one to 10-year olds to have fun. However, the museum has recognised exhibits are not reaching their full potential as adults often have to stand aside to make room for all the children. Thus, an extension will provide more space for families to enjoy and interact in the various resources together, ultimately leading to a much more enjoyable experience for all. Space for the four-storey extension is being provided by an unused car park which was bought by the non-profit museum more than a decade ago.
Children visiting the museum in the future are in for a treat. Plans for the first floor showcase a puppet theatre, fishing pond, treetop canopy area and wildlife rescue centre. The second floor will feature an aquarium, maritime learning area and places for the kids to get their hands dirty, with some hands-on engineering and an art studio.
Children and the grown-ups can have time-out from all the fun with a bite to eat at the museum’s restaurant, which is planned to be located on the third storey. Also on this floor will be an auditorium, showcasing various performances to suit a young audience and their parents. The fourth floor of Imagine Children’s Museum will be reserved for learning labs, perfect for school trips or larger groups visiting the centre.
Funds for the proposed plans have been raised by the likes of the MJ Murdock Charitable Trust, who donated $500,000 to the investment. The design team behind the project have yet to be named, however work is expected to be started by February 2021 and completed in 2022.
